I served as a Community Governor for several years at Cockermouth School, and am now happy to continue serving on the Local Governing Board as a Co-opted Governor, Chairing the Finance & Staffing Committee. I am married with two children who have been through the school. Now retired, I worked as a qualified Accountant plus some IT projects. I attend Christ Church in Cockermouth. My hobbies include fell walking and railways.

Sue Moses

Co-Opted Governor

I have been a Governor at Cockermouth School for over 20 years and am a member of Cockermouth School and Community Association (CSCA). I have a specific interest in Pupil Premium. I retired from secular employment (insurance brokering and administration) in January 2012 which leaves me more time for my hobby of fly-fishing and walking the fells. I have lived in the Cockermouth area for the whole of my life (educated at Cockermouth Grammar School) and have a passion for this place and its people. I am proud to support the school and help to maintain its ethos: aspire – enjoy – include – respect – community.

Alan Rankin

Co-Opted Governor

I have been a Governor at Cockermouth School since December 2015 and am Chair of Governors as well as Chair of the Safeguarding, Health, Safety & Welfare Committee. I am married with two daughters who both studied at Cockermouth School and are now at University. I work in the HR team at Sellafield as the Diversity and Inclusion Lead, having been involved in a broad range of HR Management roles for nearly 30 years in both nuclear and manufacturing industries. I am also the Chair of the Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner’s Ethics and Integrity Panel and the Chair the Cumbria Police West Cumbria Independent Assurance Group. Cockermouth school is an integral, valued and vital part of the local community and its continued growth, development and success is fundamental in supporting and providing the best of opportunities for all students. I have a specific interest and role within the Academy Trust Board in Safeguarding, SEND issues, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Safety and Security.

Tom Roberts

Co-Opted Governor

I joined the Local Governing Board in March 2022. Currently, I work at the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority in the Information Security team, focusing on protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of our information. I am also a member of the Cumbria Police West Cumbria Independent Assurance Group. The primary purpose of this group is to provide external, constructive, scrutiny. I used to be a student at Cockermouth School and have siblings currently/soon to be attending the school. I hope to help ensure that the standard of learning and support I received is maintained and built upon for current and future students.

Andrew Ward

Co-Opted Governor

Having spent thirty three years in education, I am really pleased to be continuing this contact as Governor at Cockermouth School. I have recently retired from full-time education, having spent the last seven years as a teacher of mathematics at Cockermouth. My association with the school, however, is longer than that as both my sons attended the school and my wife has also worked here. I hope to use my experience to help the school in its continuing journey in providing a truly world class education for all its students. My particular area of interest/expertise is in ensuring all students achieve their potential through an imaginative curriculum and through excellent teaching. I was a very proud member of the teaching staff and I am enjoying immensely the opportunity to represent the school in the Cockermouth community.
