Our latest Year 5 experience saw us welcome students from All Saints, Bridekirk Dovenby, Broughton, Dean, Eaglesfield Paddle, Fairfield, Lorton and St Bridget’s Brigham into our school, for an Arts and Careers Event, it was a fantastic opportunity for young learners to experience our vibrant school community.
Exploring the Arts
During the Arts sessions, the students had the chance to immerse themselves in creative activities across our fantastic departments:
Art - with Mrs Tinkler, students learnt about different artists and experimented with clay work - producing some impressive pieces!
Drama - Miss Mossop led an exciting theatre session where students watched and took part in a stage performance.
Music - Mr Relph introduced the students to the origins of samba, giving them a chance to play and perform using a variety of instruments.
The students were fully engaged throughout and made an excellent impression with their energy and enthusiasm. It was also great to see some of our Year 9 students working in these sessions and interacting with the younger students. They were fabulous ambassadors for our school and they provided fantastic support to all the staff involved.
Careers Inspiration at the Eco Centre
The Careers Event in our Eco Centre organised by Primary Business Partnership and facilitated by colleagues from the Centre for Leadership Performance, introduced the students to a range of fabulous speakers who came in to talk to the Year 5s about their organisations and experiences.
We were joined by colleagues from Createc, NG Bailey, Cyclife, a local STEM Ambassador, Sellafield, The Lake District Wildlife Park, Atkins Realis and Cumbria Police. Everyone who attended did a fantastic job of energising and inspiring our visitors throughout the day.
A highlight of the event was welcoming back former Cockermouth School students, now thriving in their new careers; Matthew Casson and Eva Llewellyn (representing Atkins Realis) and Holly Firby (representing Sellafield) returned to share their knowledge and experience, having once attended similar events themselves as primary school students. It was fantastic to catch up with them and to see them engaging with the Year 5 students. We are incredibly proud of what our alumni go on to achieve and it is always an absolute pleasure to welcome them back into the building.
It was a brilliant event and we cannot wait to invite our Year 5 students back into the school. The next experience is our Science day, taking place on Thursday 24 April.
