We were delighted to welcome back Year 5 students from All Saints, Bridekirk Dovenby, Broughton, Dean, Eaglesfield Paddle, Fairfield, Lorton and St Bridget’s Brigham into our school, for a Harry Potter themed Science Event and a STEAM Event which took place in our Eco Centre.
Harry Potter and the Science Department
During the Science sessions, the students had the chance to throw themselves into the magical world of Harry Potter in our exceptional department:
The Year 5 students got to
- Use temperature probes to try to identify the location of the missing philosophers stone
- Use flame tests to clear up the potions laboratory
- Use microscopes to identify some mysterious creatures
The students had a great time and contributed fully to the sessions. It was also great to see some of our Science teachers transformed into Hogwarts Professors for the occasion. They did a fabulous job of educating and entertaining our new recruits.
STEAM Event at the Eco Centre
The STEAM Event in our Eco Centre organised by Primary Business Partnership and facilitated by colleagues from the Centre for Leadership Performance, introduced the students to a range of presenters who had given their time to inform our young visitors. We were delighted to welcome Year 4 students from All Saints and Fairfield to this part of the event.
We were joined by colleagues from Sellafield Ltd, LEL Nuclear, Amentum, BAE Systems and Leaf Education. There was a fantastic buzz in the room and this atmosphere contributed to a session where students were fully engaged as they learnt a lot whilst having a great deal of fun.
It was a brilliant event and we cannot wait to invite our Year 5 students back into the school. The next experience is our PE Event, taking place on Monday 7 July.
