The school has been named as the 8th Best Comprehensive Secondary School in the North West in The prestigious Parent Power guide, which is widely acknowledged as the most authoritative survey of the UK’s top schools.
This recognition comes off the back of the impressive examination results which were achieved last summer by our Year 11 and Year 13 students. The guide quotes the percentage of students who achieved top grades at GCSE and A Level, with 29.7% of our GCSE results graded from 9-7 and 69.1% of our A Level results graded from A*-B.

Headteacher Richard King said, "We are delighted that Cockermouth School has been named as one of the top 10 Comprehensive Schools in the North West of England in this prestigious publication."
"What makes this achievement particularly special is that it reflects the outstanding results of all our students in the summer 2025 examinations. Their success has enabled them to take confident next steps and look forward to bright futures."
"This performance is the result of a combination of factors: the hard work and dedication of our students, the exceptional teaching and commitment of our talented staff, and the unwavering support of our wider school community."
"This accolade is further evidence that we are achieving our aspirational goal of providing every student with an exceptional learning experience. We remain committed to ensuring that all young people who join Cockermouth School have the opportunity to achieve great things.”
For those who are already in our school community this is fantastic news, for any new families and students who are looking to join us, it confirms the exceptional work that happens in our school every day.
We are looking forward to welcoming new cohorts of students into Year 7 and Year 12 in September 2026. These processes are ongoing with our Sixth Form Open Evening on Thursday 29 January.
