We were joined by colleagues from a couple of significant local employers, for this week’s Year 8 Careers Event. A huge thank you to Vicky Ritson (from Inspira) who helped to facilitate this event for our students.
The students took part in two activities, the first was a Supply Chain Workshop run by colleagues from Morgan Sindall. Kath Walker, Gemma Harrison, Kacie Gillespie, Georgia Farrell and Beth Nichols helped to deliver the session (supported by our Year 13 student, Jacob Walker) looking at the local network of employers and some of the different job roles and opportunities that exist in our area.
The second was a session on the Boxed In Challenge run by the Educational Outreach Team from Sellafield. Phillipa McMinn, Amelia Dodds and Emily Thurlow encouraged the students to start thinking about the skills that they may need in the workplace, by working through a timed challenge to design, reflect and create from a range of materials.
The students engaged really well with both activities and will have gained some invaluable information and experience from the event. It is so important for our students to benefit from these experiences, as employers provide important advice and guidance and a different perspective to our students.
Thank you very much to all involved for their enthusiasm and participation and to the employers who allowed the colleagues the time to come and deliver these sessions.
