Economics

Economics is a dynamic, real-world subject that never becomes stagnant. The world and its economies are ever-changing. As a subject, Economics encourages students to be enquiring and investigative whilst developing the core skills of evaluation and critical analysis. Our successful uptake is driven by the students’ appreciation of the power and influence of Economics. All our jobs, wealth, purchases and many other decisions are caused, driven and affected by Economics. The subject explains our education, tax and Government systems, and helps students to understand the choices that consumers and politicians make.

Key Stage 5

We offer Economics as an A Level option and the course begins with the study of microeconomics including decision making, Supply and Demand and other practical aspects related to individuals and firms. In parallel, we also cover Macroeconomics, which brings in the bigger picture of Government and ‘big’ business. We look at Consumption, Investment, Policy and Taxation. The second year of the course focuses on economic models and technical interpretations of Microeconomics alongside the broader Macroeconomics of European and global economies including single markets, international trade, the Euro and international cooperation.
