Art & Design
The Art & Design curriculum aims to reflect the many ways of making art in a contemporary world. Stereotypes of ‘what art is’ are broken down for students to create accomplished, admired, saleable pieces they can be proud of. Combining contemporary with traditional media and disciplines creates innovative methods of making, invigorating learning. Combined with an introduction to life and work in the Art & Design and lens-based industries, students are able to see the creative career value in the subjects. We aim to build knowledge of historical and contemporary practitioners and skills, whilst encouraging our students to be original and aspirational. Students will be able to apply knowledge and experience to determine their own outcomes, drawing on a variety of sources for inspiration to competently, confidently and independently realise their intentions.
Key Stage 3
Does the Art Department follow the National Curriculum? |
Yes |
Art students explore a vast range of two-dimensional and three-dimensional methods of art production. We are keen for students to understand the properties of each medium and how they can utilise the alchemy of combining media to achieve their intentions. We actively encourage our students to share their interests and help them to see how their uniqueness can be translated into an artwork.
Key Stage 4
Students are able to choose from three Art-based GCSE’s: Art, Craft & Design, Fine Art and Photography. After securing a strong foundation at Key Stage 3, the students are challenged to embrace risk, experimenting with more media and combining techniques using innovative methods to realise their intentions.
