Our Year 10 GCSE French students have returned from an unforgettable trip to Paris, where they immersed themselves in language, culture and history, all while having plenty of fun along the way.

The packed itinerary began with language lessons designed to boost students’ confidence in speaking French. These skills were put to the test during a visit to the vibrant market in Versailles, where students practiced real-life communication, sampling delicious local food and even trying their hand at haggling for souvenirs.

A visit to the stunning Château de Versailles followed, giving students a chance to walk through the grand halls of Louis XIV’s palace and explore one of France’s most iconic historical sites. Here, they deepened their understanding of French history, including the Revolution. The day ended with a magical evening river cruise on the Seine, offering breathtaking views of Notre-Dame, the Eiffel Tower, and more - a truly memorable end to a very busy day.

The learning continued the following morning with another language session before the group headed north of Paris for a more reflective part of the trip, focused on First World War history. At La Caverne du Dragon, students explored underground tunnels used by soldiers during the war, followed by a walk along the Chemin des Dames and a visit to the Armistice Museum in Compiègne. These experiences gave students a powerful insight into the realities of war and the events that have shaped modern Europe.

A well-deserved day of fun came next, with a full day at Parc Astérix, a highlight for many! Back in Paris for the final evening, students visited the Arc de Triomphe and enjoyed a stroll along the famous Champs-Élysées. The trip concluded with a climb up the Eiffel Tower, offering panoramic views of the sparkling city below.

This trip offered our students so much more than sightseeing. It was a valuable opportunity to connect their classroom learning with real-world experiences, while developing independence, teamwork and resilience. Bravo, Year 10! You were a credit to the school and made the most of every moment.
